Monday Storms

I'm still sick. Needless to say that led to a pretty dull weekend. I made it to the LSU game Saturday, which they lost. So that was fun. We had dinner at Caliente so that was good.

Today we had severe weather warnings. About 9:00 we all started getting alerts on our phones to "seek shelter".

This picture was taken from LSU's Athletic Building around 9:30 am.

It looked like it was the middle of the night for awhile. It was so dark!

Sitting on the floor in the hall is where we ended up. The electricity went out too. At 11:15 we got to go home. Yay for an unexpected afternoon off. There were trees down & red lights out all over.

This is a picture of LSU's baseball field. Both foul poles were blown down.

Yesterday, I worked on cleaning up my closet. I didn't finish so I used my unexpected afternoon off to finish.

I think I may have a problem. These piles are workout clothes. This is not all of them either. I've just put myself on a spending freeze when it comes to workout clothes. I also do not need any shorts for the summer.

I'm off to spend the rest of the day resting on the sofa.

Sleep

I need it! The whole allergy, upper respiratory, tonsillitis thing has reared its ugly head again. I haven't been sick since Decembet so I guess I should be thankful right?? Ugh. There was an after hours trip which got me some antibiotics but sadly I'm still sick. I'm also taking Mucinex which keeps me awake. So awake that I read an entire book during the night.

Anyway, Friday before I was feeling too bad we went to Superior Grill to celebrate Allie's 21st birthday.

The birthday girl gets to wear the sombrero!

My throat started really hurting bad so I laid low the rest of the weekend. When I don't feel good I don't eat like I should.

Buried under all that cheesy goodness is jalapeƱos & French fries! So good!

Sunday ended with an after hours trip. I will never wait until late on Sunday again. My usual pharmacy closes at 6:00. I got there at 5:50 & they wouldn't fill my prescriptions. I went to CVS. After waiting for 20 mins. they inform me they don't have the eye drops. Did I mention along with tonsillitis I also have pink eye? Fun stuff. Off I went to another pharmacy that was open 24 hours where I waited 30 mins. while sitting in the middle of a volleyball game. Seriously, 2 college kids were playing in the pharmacy waiting area which is about the size of a small bathroom. Finally I was done. I needed a Dr Pepper so I stopped on the way home only to discover the fountain drink machine was out of Dr Pepper. I can't make this stuff up. I know this isn't disastrous but when you feel like crap it sure feels like it. I picked up a few other things too.

Highly recommend the ice cream. It has less calories than the other brands & was so good!

I stayed on the sofa Monday &  watched the Boston Marathon. By Tuesday I felt worse but I needed to go to work to get a few things done. I did what I had to do & went home & back to the sofa.

This has been my view. I went to the ENT today & got my usual diagnosis of an upper respiratory infection. Against my better judgment I agreed to a steroid shot. I fully expect to still be awake this time next week. We'll see.

Needless to say I haven't worked out since Friday & my eating has been less than stellar. Obviously.

Another Weekend

For some reason I can't seem to get it together to post more than once or twice a week. I guess partly because there isn't much going on these days. Tax season is almost over & I'm thrilled! I haven't had to work any Saturday's which both annoys me & makes me happy. Annoyed because Saturday's worked equal days off of my choosing later. Being that we have the big cruise coming up & the Wine & Dine Half later in the year & another yet to be determined vacay, I can use all the days I can get.

So, let's see where I left off. Tuesday I got a 4 mi. run in before work.

Now that the weather is warming up this will have to happen more often if I want to actually be able to breathe while I run & not have a heat stroke.

Over the next few days I was able to get ab work, leg work & arm work done.

I don't remember what was what now. I do know that Thursday I was supposed to get up for another run & I couldn't drag myself out of bed. So instead of getting up at 4:30, I got up at 6:00. I really hate when I do that because I never get back into a deep sleep. Oh well, I guess I needed the rest.

I posted this pic on Facebook last week. Whatever day was National Sibling Day.

Me & my big little brother Scott on my wedding day. Incidentally, today is his 38th birthday. He's getting old & we know what that means for me since he's my younger brother.  He's also the only sibling I have. He drove me crazy growing up & I could've strangled him every time he stole Barbie's car & put Ken in it & played like it was a race car but now we get along famously. Yay!

LSU played at home all weekend. It rained a lot on Friday & the forecast wasn't looking good for the rest of the weekend. Dean & I went to Caliente, pretty much the entire rest of our crew was at the beach for spring break. Bummer. While we were eating I saw on twitter that the game had been pushed back because of the weather & first pitch was now scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Seriously. Well, anyone that knows me or has been visiting here knows what I'm going to say next. I was not going to the game & I was fast asleep when Dean got home after it was over at 11:45.

Saturday I was going for a run before the rain started again & I saw a couple of cardinals in the backyard. They hang around some. I really hate birds but I think these are kinda pretty.

Wish I would've been able to get my good camera out.

I started off my run aiming for 4 miles. Even though I wanted to do more I wasn't sure if I could beat the rain. There was a slight breeze & it was cloudy & felt pretty good. Then all of a sudden it wasn't breezy & it was really humid & didn't feel so good.

Good news is I was able to go 5 miles & then I went home & did this.

The water is cold so this serves as my ice bath. I was able to sit there for 20 minutes. Then it was inside for squats & lunges & all that jazz. I'm trying hard to do a lot of that since strong legs makes for less injuries. At least that's what I keep reading.

Once all that business was done I had a few errands to run.

Graduation gifts are bought! I only have 8 graduates to shop for this year. Thankfully, only one is a guy. Guy's are way too hard to shop for.

By the time I got home I was all about a nap. The forecast didn't exactly pan out so I went with Dean to the game. We stopped at Raising Canes on the way. I hadn't had it in awhile & it was delicious!!!  I had a Dr. Pepper too. There's just something about a DP & crushed ice. YUMMM!

Sunday the only thing I did on my to do list was an arm workout. I really need to clean out my closet. Like really but it's not going anywhere.

I checked the weather before bed last night & there was a 20% chance of rain this morning. I had a run scheduled & was hoping I could beat the rain.

I did. There's something to be said for running in sprinkles when it's 70 degrees & 93% humidity. You'll never hear me complain about sprinkles.

So, that's what's been happening. In the next update you may get to hear about how we had to buy a new dryer. For the last 2 weeks ours sounds like it's dying every time we use it. Good times.

Happy Easter!

We had a very nice Easter weekend. I hope y'all did too. I had to work Good Friday since it fell during tax season. When I got home Dean & I went with our friends Cindy & Brad to Live After Five downtown. Cowboy Mouth was the band. You may have heard the song "Jenny Says", if so, that's Cowboy Mouth.

We hit up Lucy's for the cute pineapple drinks.

Saturday morning we woke up to rain. Lovely. Cindy & I ran errands. Later the weather cleared up & we ran.

We did some intervals for 2.7 miles & then I ran the rest of the way home.

When I got home I did leg work. We went to Caliente Saturday night.

Sunday after Mass we went to my parents house.

We got Logan a basket with a few treats & some pool toys.

The Easter Bunny brought him some sidewalk paint so we played with that for awhile.

Why is it playing with the paint with a brush isn't enough??? LOL

Dean's parents came for lunch too. This is the group Pacquing eggs. This is something that I never heard of until Lydia joined the family. She thought it was a Cajun tradition but Dean & his family had never heard of it either. After doing some googling I found that it's an Acadiana tradition. Some people call it knocking eggs.  Basically, you take the dyed eggs  & one person "knocks" the other egg & whoever's egg cracks is the loser. Logan pretty much beat everyone & he's not gentle in his knocking.

I guess all the pacquing & knocking made him hungry.

There was a little ball to be played.

Logan was practicing his pitching. He plays t-ball, there is no pitcher. He needs to be taking some ground balls because his defense is not great.

He's got his form down.

Monday morning I was up bright & early & did arms.

It wasn't my best workout. I just wasn't feeling it but at least I did something. That's what I always tell myself so I don't get discouraged.

How was your Easter?

Thirsty Thursday

The title has nothing to do with the post. It just goes together. Now that I'm thinking about it I could go for a Dr. Pepper or a margarita. A nap would be nice too. I'm so sleepy all of a sudden. Oh well.

You know it's Easter when the Azalea's are blooming.

I have several different colors in my yard.

The azalea's always remind me of when I was a kid at Easter. We'd go outside & take pictures in front of the azaleas in our Easter outfits.

I guess spring really is getting here finally. I have all sorts of plants & flowers that are starting to bloom & grow pretty new leaves.

I've been eating a lot of greek yogurt & I recently found 2 new types that are really good.

This one is has tons of protein & not many calories. I'm pretty sure I don't eat enough protein. I'd much rather have carbs. Figures. I really liked this one.

I normally buy Oikos regular until I saw this Triple Zero stuff. I really liked this flavor. It's not an overpowering banana flavor. Really good. It has more protein but also more calories. I'm not really counting calories but I'm trying to eat healthy & within reason so that I can eat Mexican on the weekends!

These are sooo good! I first tasted them at The Louisiana Marathon Expo. They gave out coupons for free bottles. This is Strawberry Banana Light & there's a Chocolate Light. They're 150 calories each but if you need some protein it's great. The regular have somewhere around 200 I think.  I've had both of those flavors & I think they're delicious & that the chocolate tasted like chocolate milk. However, I had a chocolate one at a race & Logan wanted some & judging by the look on his face he did not think it tasted like chocolate milk so you'll have to judge for yourself. I don't drink these often but I had one after my run yesterday.

I managed 4 miles before work. It's the first before work run I've done in awhile. It was so cold for so long & then the thought of running around the circle a bunch of times was not appealing. It's starting to warm up so like it or not I'll be running in circles. Now when I say circles it's not like it's some little tiny thing. It's about a half a mile from my house around the cul de sac & around the "circle" so it could be worse.

Lately, after I run I've been doing leg exercises. Squats, lunges & all of that type of stuff. Running in the morning doesn't allow for that. I just don't have enough time & I can't see myself getting up before 4:30. When I got home from work I did the leg stuff. This probably worked out better anyway because  I worked out longer. I did a bunch of weighted squats & lunges & leg lifts & donkey kicks & all that stuff. I'm pretty sore today so I guess it was a good workout.

This morning was arm day. I didn't follow anyone's workout today. I just did a series of weights from different workouts that I've done lately. Between shaky arms & sore legs I wanted to crawl back into bed.

So, unlike the majority of the world I'll be working tomorrow. I thought when I left the newspaper I was through working holidays. For the most part I am but when Easter falls before April 15th it's no longer a holiday. The good news is I get a day to take later.
