My Birthday Weekend

Saturday I turned the ripe old age of 38. I'm not really sure where the time has gone from the time I was about 23 to now. I left work a little early Thursday & went & had a massage. This was the first massage I've ever had. I've always been funny about strangers touching me. It was actually a delightful experience & one that I'd definitely do again.

I took the day off Friday as well but I still got up at 5 & went for a run. I had my nails done, did some shopping & had lunch with my parents at Brewbachers. It was a lovely day. Not real productive as far as shopping though. I did get a few things.
I got my purse at TJ Maxx. I NEVER find anything there & I only went in because I was going to Bed, Bath & Beyond next door.  Only $25 & it's the softest leather.
I got a Bullet. With all the eating right I'm trying to do I decided that I needed this. I want to make smoothies because I don't eat enough fruit. I like a fruit shake/smoothie much better than actually eating fruit. I haven't made anything yet but everything's unpacked & ready to go!

Once Dean got home we went to dinner at La Carreta & then head over to our Church Fair. Lots of our friends were there so we visited & listened to the band. This particular band is made up of several of our parishioner's. One being a Cardiologist & another a Pediatrician. It's pretty funny to watch them bounce around & dance. At one point they sang Soul Man & our Priest joined them on stage & sang. It was hilarious!

Saturday I went for a 4 mile walk. We had a cold front come through Thursday so the weather's been great. A little cool early in the morning & after the sun goes down but really pretty during the day. After the walk I went shopping again. Ann Taylor Loft was having a 40% off everything sale. I scored there.

The tank was only like $2.50. It was on clearance. I also got a pair of skinny jeans to wear with my boots & flats. I picked up a green tea from Starbuck's (Thanks Vicki & Lane) & then headed home. We watched football & went to Mass. After Mass we walked around & visited at the fair again & then went to dinner at Marcello's. It was sooooo good. I had eggplant parmigiana & a salad. We even decided to have dessert & I'm so glad we did. We had strawberry cake with white chocolate icing. OMG DIVINE!!!

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day. I actually slept until 8:00 which rarely happens. I went through my closet & got rid of a bunch of stuff that doesn't fit anymore & straightened things up. Then it was to the sofa to read & nap. HA! I did go to Yoglates yesterday evening so I wasn't a complete bum. All in all it was a great birthday weekend.

It's October!

Hard to believe isn't it? I love the month of October. My anniversary is tomorrow & my birthday is at the end of the month. Lots to look forward to.

Friday night we went to the wine tasting. There were 4 couples & we had such a good time. We also drank entirely too much wine. There were 7 wines featured. The 7th was DELISH, my absolute fave. Sadly, it was like $150 a bottle. Needless to say we didn't bring any of that home. The meal was delicious too. We had blue cheese stuffed mushrooms. SOOOOO good. Turkish lamb stew, which I was leery about, but was also really good. The main course was prime rib & olive oil baked potatoes with chocolate butter cake for dessert. The wines are always discounted at these dinners so we usually buy some of our faves. There's also an additional discount if you buy 6 or more. This is some of what we bought.
We ended up with 7 bottles. I just realized something. Anytime, I buy more of something than I need due to a discount Dean says I'm "spaving", spending to save. He makes fun of me for this BUT he did the same thing Friday night!!! HA!

So after the dinner we went to Marcello's. It's a small restaurant & bar that's really good. We just stopped in for a drink. I had a wedding cake martini & it was delish!! Good thing I had the recipe in my phone because the bartender didn't know how to make it.
YUM!!!
Suzy, Korie & me. It was really dark so it was hard to get a decent picture.

Saturday morning I woke up bright & early at 6:15 & couldn't go back to sleep. It was awful. I also had a headache. Imagine that. I went for a walk & then came home & did Bethenny Frankel's  Body By Bethenny Yoga DVD. I borrowed it from my friend Wendy to see what it's like. I've never done just regular Yoga so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's very similar to the yoga portion of Yoglates. I liked it & it was more low key than what we do in class so that was nice on a off day but I probably wouldn't do this one again. I'd rather do something different from my regular routine.

I laid on the sofa the rest of the afternoon watching the LSU game. It was dullsville but they won. After the game we went next door for Amelia-Ann's 13th birthday party. I had my first "gourmet" cupcake. I never understood what the fuss was about but OMG I do now & I've been missing out. They were soooo good!!! I had wedding cake. DELISH!! Hopefully, it won't affect the scale too much this week. I just couldn't resist.

Yesterday, we went to 7:00 Mass & when we got home I ran. Week 8 Day 1 is 28 minutes straight. It was tough but I did it & I increased my time by over a minute. I don't know if that was a fluke or if I really am improving since the weather is cooler & less humid. I guess we'll see tomorrow when I do day 2. After my run I parked myself on the sofa again. I didn't sleep great again Saturday night & I was planning to go to Yoglates later so I took a little nap & read & watched the Saints. I brought Korie & Suzy to Yoglates with me. They'd never tried it & didn't know what to expect. Let's just say they have an all new respect for me & what I've been doing. I got a message from Korie this morning that just said "OWWWW". That pretty much sums it up!

Did y'all have a good weekend?

Game Day

I told you that Friday night I was going to eat well since I had Cheez Nips for lunch due to the unfortunate incident of my real lunch being stolen. We decided to go to Sammy's. LSU is out & summer school hasn't started & it was 6:00. We didn't think crowds would be a problem. We were wrong. There were about 30 people standing around outside waiting for tables & there were NO parking spots. By that point I had my heart set on seafood. I love seafood & this whole oil spill thing has me nervous that soon there won't be any. Luckily we have some fish & shrimp in the freezer. When I say luckily, I mean THANK GOD for my inlaws!!! I don't know what I'd do without shrimp. Anyway, we decided to try the Chimes. I love the Chimes but crowds are usually a problem there too. Normally, I don't mind waiting a bit. Dean however, does not like to wait to spend his money. Of course there was the unfortunate lunch incident so I needed to eat in a hurry before I got grumpier than I already was. Thankfully, we parked, walked in & they seated us immediately!! Thank God for small favors!!! It was delicious & we even got to watch the Ole Miss game on TV. I also have a whole to go box of seafood treats!!!

Yesterday, Dean went to his parents to help his dad run nets. Vicki & Lane came over to swim. The weather was beautiful & the water was 88 degrees which I think is absolutely perfect. After we swam awhile & listened to the LSU game we had a picnic, as Lane said. Vicki & I had Brewbachers & Lane had McDonalds. It was delightful. Lane was very excited about his Shrek Happy Meal.

After lunch we came inside & watched the last couple of innings of the LSU game. They won! Vicki emailed me this picture of Lane from the way home. It didn't take him long to pass out.

I may have taken a little nap myself. Our friends invited us join them for dinner at Marcello's. It was our first time to eat there & we really enjoyed it. The place was a wine bar that expanded into a restaurant. When I say expanded, I mean added a few tables. It's a bit of a hole in the wall but I like that about it. There were 6 of us there & we had a great time.

In an interesting turn of events, LSU has swept through the SEC tournament this week & is playing for the championship today. Just think, last weekend they were fighting just to get into the tournament! I'm going to go ahead & go on record AGAIN & say that I DO NOT think LSU will be hosting a regional next weekend. There are lots of people out there that do. Even if the losing  regular season conference record, the 8th seed in the tournament & fighting to get in the tournament don't convince you, the fact that there was no email from LSU saying to submit your credit card for tickets in the event of a regional should. We will see.

The game is at 1:00 & the neighbors are coming over to watch. Geaux Tigers!!!!
